My Shop is on Vacation. But I’m Not.

October 31, 2011

I haven’t blogged since my Halloween giveaway. So I put my shop on vacation, while we have been busy with a lot of things that have come up that has required our time, and we have been making some important decisions. Unfortunately, one of those decisions has been whether or not to reopen my shop.

I have learned so much about running a shop since I opened it, and one of the things we have learned is just how much time it takes to run a shop. We have been considering it and prioritizing, and thus far, my shop will reopen. I’m not sure when, as I have learned so much since opening my shop, that I am using what I have learned to make some changes and some new goals regarding my shop. It is my goal that when I do reopen my shop, I will have an inventory ready to ship as soon as I get an order. I also hope to have a more simple, easier to navigate shop, with more organized products. I am also excited about some of the new items I will have in my shop.

Until then, I will continue blogging and posting coloring pages and other fun things, as well as updates on my shop and it’s reopening date. After all, blogging has been my favorite part of opening my shop.

“Come Follow Me”

October 11, 2011

My brother, Jimmy, just moved into a new house and asked if I would draw a picture of the Savior, Jesus Christ for his place.  I was thrilled.  I had never done any serious pictures of the Savior, and the ideas started flooding.  (Jimmy, you may get more than 1)

I finished my first one, and listed it on Etsy.  It’s titled, “Come Follow Me,” and was inspired by Matthew 11:28, “Come follow Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

After listing this on Etsy, I realized I hadn’t posted on my blog for a while, and that I needed to post about this print.  I needed to post my testimony, because this blog is about who I am, this is one of the most important parts of who I am.

I know my Savior, Jesus Christ lives.  I know he lived on this Earth and showed us the way to return to Him.  He suffered and died for us.  I know he loves me, and that there is no burden I could possibly bear that he can’t lift, and no pain that he doesn’t understand.  I know that when I rely on Him, my burdens are lighter, and that He takes care of me.  Not always in the way I want or expect, but always in a way that helps me grow and become more like Him – and that is my goal, to follow Him and become more like Him.  I love my Savior and have felt His love, and it has sustained me through some of the worst times in my life.

My Garden

October 5, 2011

It rained last night, and a bunch of seeds I planted last week came up.  I have carrots, peas, broccoli lettuce, and arugula up now, but I am most excited for the peas.

I found out about square foot gardening from a friend, and have decided that this is almost the only way to go – at least for me.  I haven’t had to pull any weeds, I save a ton on watering, and my plants flourish in the great soil.

I didn’t use Mel’s Mix, like the book says, but I bought some really good manure, and peat moss and mixed it with my dirt and have had pretty good success.  I just mix in compost when I plant something new to keep nutrients in the soil.  I also used 12″ wide planks, as it was still pretty economical.  I just bought 12′ x 4′ x 16’s at Lowe’s and had them cut them into 4′ planks and then I put them together.  We ate corn, tomatoes, squash, basil (i.e. pesto) home-made Pico de Gallo, cucumbers and melon all summer, and it was great!  For more info on square foot gardening, here’s the link –

Here’s what my square foot gardens look like – I have three.

That huge bush/tree is my basil, and seriously, it’s big enough to offer shade.  It completely took over that 4′ x 4′ section, and now I’m not sure what to do with all that basil.  Does anyone want some free basil…. a lot of free basil?  Or know of a farmer’s market maybe that I could sell it in?

Anyways, if anyone wants to try gardening, I think it works a little differently in Arizona, as far as the weather and planting times go.  Here, you can plant almost all year.  Essentially, we plant our summer vegetables in the spring, a second round of many of the summer vegetables in late summer, our cold vegetables in early fall, then again in January or February.  For a more detailed calendar, I like this one.

Anyways, I love gardening, as it is very therapeutic, and so I wanted to share.  Here’s pics of my seedlings.  I’m having visions of broccoli, carrots, and peas dancing in my head.

I do have a portion of my garden that isn’t square foot, and this way has worked really well, too.  I used a soaker-hose connected to a timer on my faucet to conserve water and to make watering easy.

Giveaway coming!!!

October 5, 2011

First of all, I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been busy, and I’ve had a lot of creative energy, so any extra time has been going into that.
We had a great weekend. We watched two sweet little girls, and Karli was so excited to not be the only girl in this house of boys. (besides me, of course). We did nails, made scones, watched movies, and had a blast. It was nice to have some more girls around here.
So that’s some of what I have been doing instead of blogging this week. So, to make up for it, and because it’s October and Halloween is so much fun, I will be announcing a giveaway in the next few days. So keep reading, tell your friends, because it will be fun.
